Anna McGarry, Citrus College
Anna McGarry, Professor of Spanish, has been teaching the language, literature, history and cultures of Spanish-speaking peoples for eighteen years. Her experience ranges from the middle school level to the university; she is beginning her ninth year at Citrus College. Professor McGarry has traveled extensively through Spain, Mexico and Argentina, and completed part of her graduate studies in Burgos and Michoacan. She was a study abroad student in France during her college years, and believes that experiencing and understanding other cultures through travel and living abroad is an essential component of a rich college education. A lover of languages and cultures (she is currently studying Russian), Professor McGarry is excited about the opportunity for students to be immersed in the language and culture of Spain.
Leonard López, San Bernardino Valley College
Leonard López teaches philosophy and political science at San Bernardino Valley College. He is also an attorney in private practice. After attending community college, Professor López earned degrees in philosophy and law at UCLA and Stanford. He also earned an Arts and Culture Fellowship with the Coro Foundation of Southern California. Professor López taught in Salamanca, Spain in Spring 2006, and is excited to return. He believes that Study Abroad is a life-changing experience for students and that it provides a perfect opportunity to engage in the philosophical quest to "know thyself."
Dr. Jeannette Duarte, Rio Hondo College
Dr. Jeannette Duarte has been teaching communication courses for 17 years at a variety of institutions including Fullerton College, Santa Ana College, Mt. San Antonio College, and Chapman University. She earned her master's degree at Texas A&M University and her doctorate at Arizona State University specializing in Political Rhetoric and Cultural Studies. Currently, she teaches at Rio Hondo College and has been involved in Learning Communities and Virtual/Online Education. This will be Dr. Duarte's first experience teaching abroad. She is eager to help students learn about communication by exploring the culture and sites in Spain.
